Nvidia Can Still Beat Expectations Without Impressing Everyone
Nvidia Can Still Beat Expectations Without Impressing Everyone

BBC’s recent coverage of Nvidia’s latest earnings underlines a new market mood: record performance alone is no longer enough when a company is carrying the expectations of the entire AI trade.

Investors want proof that supply, competition and customer demand can all stay aligned. In other words, the conversation is moving from how hot the boom looks to how long the economics can keep supporting it.

Nvidia's fiscal year 2025 results reveal staggering growth with revenue surging 114.2% to $130.5 billion and net income increasing 144.89% to $72.88 billion. The data center segment now represents 86% of total revenue, generating $35.6 billion in Q4 alone, a 93% year-over-year increase driven by AI infrastructure demand from cloud providers.

Gross margin dynamics present a nuanced picture, with Q4 margins dipping to 73.5% due to Blackwell production ramp-up costs and supply chain challenges. However, full-year non-GAAP gross margin improved to 75.5%, demonstrating the company's ability to manage costs at scale despite short-term product transition pressures.

The competitive landscape is intensifying as AMD, Intel, and custom silicon from hyperscalers challenge Nvidia's dominance. While Nvidia commands 80-92% of the AI accelerator market, emerging alternatives in inference workloads and specialized applications create pricing pressure and market fragmentation risks.

Geopolitical considerations add complexity, with US-China tensions affecting market access and supply chain resilience. Nvidia's strategic response includes domestic investment diversification, enhanced inventory management, and development of region-specific product variants to navigate export controls and localization requirements.
